This non-profit foundation created by Houston Eye Associates physicians is to provide medical eye care services to those less fortunate by providing financial assistance for medical treatment and surgery of the eye. The physicians at Houston Eye are dedicated to also making sure they donate their time and skills to the Houston Eye Associates Foundation. Houston Eye Associates also has an optical center that specializes in vison correction with state-of-the-art ophthalmic lenses and custom contact lenses. These areas of specialization include: cornea, retina, glaucoma, pediatrics, refractive/LASIK, oculoplastic, uveitis and neuro-ophthalmology. While most of the physicians perform routine eye examinations, all physicians are specialty trained or fellowship trained in one or more areas. For over fifty years Houston Eye has been providing patients with the highest level of care with over 20 locations in the greater Houston area. He has been married for over 20 years to Dr, Joyce Holz, one of Houston’s leading gynecologic surgeons. He enjoys any outdoor activity, but particularly working in the yard, hiking, hunting and fishing. Holz is known as the “doctor with boots” due to his sartorial quirk of constantly wearing boots with his scrub attire. Holz is honored yearly as a Super Doctor since 2007.ĭr. Holz is a board certified retina specialist and belongs to many esteemed ophthalmological societies like the American Society of Retina Specialists, the American Board of Ophthalmology, and the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Holz also treats pediatric patients through RVT's Houston Pediatric Retina clinic.ĭr. He has a special interest in diseases affecting the macula, in particular, epiretinal membrane, vitreomacular traction syndrome, macular hole and macular degeneration. Holz has been an active researcher with over 60 publications covering a wide range of retinal conditions. He has trained over 20 retina fellows and 75 ophthalmology residents to become retina specialists. During that time, he was promoted to Associate Professor of Ophthalmology with tenure and Chief of the Surgical Retina Service. Holz has been on the full-time faculty for the past 12 years. He was recruited back to the faculty at Baylor and Dr. Holz practiced for three years at Retina and Vitreous Associates of Kentucky in Lexington. He completed medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas then stayed at Baylor for a transitional internship and ophthalmology residency at the Cullen Eye Institute under the supervision of Dr. He graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with Highest Honors and was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa.
